Hiking

Whether you want to stroll along the shoreline or embark on a truly challenging summit hike, Vega offers many options.

The trail between Eidem and Sundsvoll starts/ends in Juvika on Eidem. Photo Guri Dahl/Norway's World Heritage.

Diverse coastal landscape on the island of Vega with steep mountains, pine forests, sandy beaches, and shallow seas.

If you go on a summit hike, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the archipelago, comprising 6,500 islands and islets. Visit the nature reserves of Holandsosen and Kjellerhaugvatnet to spot various birds, see the heather bloom in late summer, and gain insight into how we manage the living World Heritage through cultivation and grazing. If you want to learn more about the ocean, we recommend walking along the beautiful beaches, and in Levika on Eidem, you'll find several information boards about the animals and algae you can discover during your beach walks. If you'd like to explore an enchanting forest with rich plant and animal life, we recommend a trip to the rock shelter "VefsnAnna-stua" in Eidemsliene nature reserve. You can learn more about the Stone Age along the Stone Age Trail. Remember that all activities must be done on nature's terms. Read more about the Right to roam. Also, remember that protected areas have their own specific rules for access and use.

Visit the Visit Vega website for more information about the various hikes, difficulty levels, and estimated time. Enjoy your trips on beautiful Vega!
